Summer! x D

Chap in the last one actually was on his honeymoon, he and his misses had passed out on the bar, she woke up and ditched her new man, ha!! Meanwhile he’s left snoozing, not a clue.

went out messing around with fire again last night… me noA and farley. went around HSQ (the supposed private new apartment complex by IMMA - got hassel off the secro dude saying we were spying in people’s windows - sap) and Rialto.

captured some nice flame forms. think i’m going to forget about the fire breathing. the timings really difficult at the really fast shutter speeds. have a few more flamers up me sleeves tho, ha!

Mission:

Me and my buddy NoA out to get some whoppper photi’s goin!

-Decided to head to Smurfits in Glasnevin.

Ammo:

36 Led Lamp - with full white diffusion
Torch - 300 lumen bad boy that i got for a tenner on ebay
Home Made Fire Staff - poi head on half a broom stick
Parrafin - just to heat things up a bit.

Nikon D80 + Nikon 15-70mm + Tokina 11-16mm + usual long exposure gear

The Fun

Got into the place not a bother! we headed straight for the the remains of the office or what ever it used to be, if you followed the Smurfit link to the map, you can see a shell of a building within the lot at the bottom middle-right part of the abandoned lot.

Soon as we started to set up i looked across to where we came in and i saw about three or four flash lights and heads coming over the wall and beginning searching (for us obviously). We packed up and went to leave - when our paths met, the Guards realised that we were not in there to graffiti the place, had no paint, only camera gear. Showed them some shots from the night before and they let us alone. SOUND! mad tho, there was three talking to us, another three or so on the other side of the fence and one on top… the amount of them just to get a coupla chaps wit spray cans…

FIRE!!! last night was the first time i’d ever tried spit firing, after an over the phone tutoring, I was ready to spit. Nasty taste off it! Face felt proper burnt at the end of the night, but not one hair was singed.

The fire shots were all taken pretty quickly, like around 350th of a second to freeze the form of the flames, ISO and Aperture adjusted accordingly.

 hope you enjoy’d : )

messing around with some new tools.

- fire staff - wik head from fire poi set screwed onto the remains of a sweeping brush handle - shot @250/350th of a second, F5.6, ISO 100, Temp - 5000K

- 36 LED Lamp, strapped to the remains of a tripod (extendible stick - very handy). Full white diffusion sheet placed over visor. Goal - to have a thick white ribbon when waved in front of a camera on long exposure, rather than the 9 or so rows of LEDs appearing as individual lines (as in my last post). Bulb, F22, ISO 100, Temp around 7000K

I spend so much time preparing my new tools - and faffing about online - that i didnt get out untill just after sunrise, so I only had about 20 mins before the light got too much and i had to stop light painting.

only testing out some new tools here, perfecting somethings, seeing what needs to be improved upon and what are the best conditions for photographing fire - my research leads me to believe that a faster shutter speed is the best way, so as to freeze its form - dunno what’d happen with a flash gun… burn out the shot probably with that amount of light!

Next time, I’m going to try stay in the one place, so as to stay in focus.

my new toy! x D

great day today at the Legalise Marijuana March on Dáil Éireann, left the house with two animal lenses to go off and have the craic with for the day. Arrived up at the Garden of Rememberance, Parnell Square, Dublin went to grab my camera out when I realised I’d left my memory card in the laptop. Thank you Deborah Tormey for letting me borrow your memory card! Been dying to play with a telephoto lens!

Shenanigans out in the FTWarehouse with Ev & Al.

Tools:
Smokebombs
LED Lenser P7
Orange Gel

Gear:
Nikon D80
Tokina 11-16mm
Tripod
Shutter Release

I Started by testing out the position of the smoke in front of or behind the pillar, i figured it looked best infront of the pillar with me lighting it from behind with the P7

I then tested the rest of my compositional elements  - smokey pillars, background and two half lit figures.

I half lit both figures with the P7 and orange gel, half lit the front and half back lit the opposite side of each figure.

Once I was happy with each element I went for the whole thing.

Wish I had a flash gun to freeze each figure, but I still like the turn out. Also wish there was less ambient light, but what can you do. Was hoping for alot more white than orange

I am thinking about working with Neutral Density filters to reduce the amount of light received by the sensor - would have to use each tool for longer as a result, but I think its worth a shot!

Nothing epic, but I hope you enjoy : )

more attempts at multiple exposures…

practice makes perfect : )

On a hunt for some nice reflections - bad day for it, shite all puddles around! - I end up messing around with the multi-exposure feature in my camera…

one in particular i love! take a wild guess which one! : )
